Joe Biden will not immediately remove phase one tariffs for China.
Joe Biden, winner of the US Presidential elections held on November 3, announced that he would not remove tariffs under a phase-out trade agreement with China.
Biden, who gave his first important message about trade relations with China, told the New York Times that he would not make a trade agreement with China before the investments in the US, “I will not enter into a new trade agreement with anyone before we complete our large investments in our workers and education domestically.”
Biden noted that he also wanted a full review process on existing trade agreements with China.
The new president stated that he wants to talk to his allies in Europe and Asia first regarding trade agreements with China so that they can form a common strategy. In addition,
Biden added, "In the first weeks of my Presidency, the effort to bring the country in line with our allies will be my main priority."
