Bill Gates intends to contribute $ 1.5 billion to combating climate change
Microsoft co-founder and billionaire Bill Gates intends to contribute $ 1.5 billion to projects aimed at combating climate change. However, he makes his investment conditional on the US Congress approving Biden's infrastructure plan.
Gates' fund Breakthrough Energy Ventures is to invest about $ 1.5 billion over three years to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. For example, the billionaire wants the aircraft to produce no direct emissions in the near future. However, the condition is massive US investment in infrastructure. The CNBC portal informed about it.
The goal of Biden's investment plan in US infrastructure is, among other things, to direct the US towards greater use of renewable energy sources and to support electric cars. For example, more than half a million charging stations for electric cars should be built in the country. The infrastructure plan allocates a total of $ 25 billion to projects designed to contribute to a more environmentally friendly environment.
So far, the US Senate approved a non-binding budget measure on Wednesday, which will serve as the basis for a massive investment plan in the amount of 3.5 trillion dollars. The proposal is now going to the House of Representatives.
Bill Gates said his money would also go to projects that capture
carbon dioxide. It also wants to focus on green hydrogen, which is produced with the help of renewable sources and in the production of which no greenhouse gases are released.
"If the infrastructure law passes through both chambers, it will not only lead us to zero carbon emissions, but will also create new jobs across the country," Bill Gates said in an official statement.
The approval of the infrastructure plan by both chambers can take several months. If it didn't happen in the end, Gates would invest elsewhere. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, he said he would support similar projects in Asia or Europe.
