BIST 100 Index Closed the Day with a Decline

BIST 100 index closed the day with a decline. BIST 100 index lost 4.50 percent in Borsa Istanbul and ended the day with 1,467.00 points.

At the end of the day, the BIST 100 index, in Borsa Istanbul, decreased by 69.11 points compared to the previous closing, and the total transaction volume was recorded as 34.3 billion liras. At the closing, the banking index lost its value by 4.07 percent, while the holding index lost 5.07 percent. While there was a depreciation in all sector indices, IT lost the most with 7.23 percent. Analysts stated that the global markets followed a negative course as a result of the ongoing concerns about the increase in the number of coronavirus (Covid-19) cases, supply failures at the vaccination point and the negative effects of the epidemic on the economy. Reminding that the US Federal Reserve (FED) interest rate decision to be announced at 10 pm and the statements to be made by FED President Jerome Powell is on the agenda of the markets this evening, analysts stated that the FED is not expected to change the interest rates and that the emphasis on inflation and employment can be continued in verbal guidance. Analysts stated that the first inflation report of the year to be announced by the CBRT, CBRT Monetary Policy Committee meeting summary and economic confidence index data will be monitored tomorrow, while an intense data agenda, especially growth in the USA, inflation in Germany and consumer confidence index in the Eurozone, will be followed abroad. On the technical side, analysts stated that the 1.420 level was in support and 1.555 level is in the resistance position for the BIST 100 index.
