US-based commercial space company Astrobotic Technology has announced that it will send 1 Bitcoin (BTC) to the Moon this year, along with
BitMEX.
The company, which signed a contract with NASA, reported that it plans to send the lander, called Peregrine, to the Moon in the fourth quarter of 2021. In the statement, it was stated that the load of Peregrine-1 will consist of a single Bitcoin with the agreement reached between Astrobotic and the cryptocurrency exchange BitMEX.
In addition, a website called moonb.tc was established for this action. On the site, it was stated that the journey will take place in November and the following expressions were used:
"In November 2021, BitMEX and Astrobotic are sending a unique physical coin loaded with 1 Bitcoin to the Moon. When the physical coin lands, it will stay on the Moon until anyone finds it worthwhile to buy it. How much will it be worth decades from now?"
In the statement, it was informed that the address of this coin, which will be on the Moon, will also be announced, so that those who wish can witness the receipt of BTC or send some satoshi to the address. Before the launch, it was said that a limited series of commemorative coins will also be offered in the world.
Astrobotic CEO John Thornton used the following statements on the subject:
“Yes, Bitcoin is literally going to the moon. We are incredibly excited to launch this payload to the surface and look forward to the mission.”
