Budget Deficit Statement by Prof. Dr. Saygılıoğlu
Prof. Dr. Nevzat Saygılıoğlu stated that the budget deficit has no brakes. He also added that this budget can be called a social transfers budget, an interest budget and an election budget.
Prof. Dr. Nevzat Saygılıoğlu, a faculty member at
Atılım University Faculty of Business Administration, evaluated the 2023 budget proposal as an 'election budget'.
Prof. Saygılıoğlu made important remarks:
"Expenditure budget allocations have been increased by 58 percent, while the revenue forecast is 49 percent. Therefore, the 9 percent deficit means an additional deficit reflected in 2023. The budget deficit is projected at 659 billion liras for 2023. This means that the deficit of 278 billion liras has increased by 237 percent compared to the initial allocation for 2022. In other words, the budget deficit reaching 3.5 percent of GDP is not sufficient and correct. The budget deficit has no brakes."
