Bundesbank Chairman Jens Weidmann will step down. The hawk of European monetary policy will leave his job at the end of the year.
The President of the German Central Bank (
Bundesbank) Jens Weidmann announced that he will leave his post as of December 31, citing personal reasons.
Weidmann submitted his resignation to the German President, according to a statement released by the
Bundesbank on Wednesday.
Weidmann wrote to Bundesbank employees, said, "After more than a decade, I have come to the conclusion that it is the right time to turn a new leaf - for the Bundesbank and for me personally."
Jens Weidmann, 53, also stands out as one of the most hawkish members of the European Central Bank Governing Council.
