Car Production In Britain Continued To Decline In November

Car production in Britain continued to decline in November. Compared to the October development, the pace of decline slowed down significantly, but this is not the result of a more favorable situation, but of weak production in November last year. The British Association of Car Manufacturers and Dealers informed about it on Wednesday. According to the union, 106,243 cars were produced in Britain in November, a year-on-year decrease of 1.4 percent. In October, however, production fell by almost a fifth year-on-year. However, production in November 2019 was extremely weak, as companies prepared for the original date of Britain's departure from the EU in the autumn, counting on hard Brexit without an agreement. After the first set date of 29 March 2019, the country's withdrawal date from the EU was postponed to 31 October. As for November this year, the production of cars for the domestic market fell sharply. The decline was 10.4 percent, while export production increased by 0.3 percent. From the beginning of the year to the end of November, car production in Britain fell by 31 percent year on year, when they produced 380,809 fewer cars in the country compared to 11 months last year. These developments suggest that they will produce less than a million cars in Britain by 2020. That would mean producing less than a million vehicles for the second time since the early 1980s. The situation is also complicated by the imminent departure of Britain from the EU after the end of the transitional period. As many as 85 per cent of cars in Britain were produced for export in November. According to the SMMT, this means that the automotive sector urgently needs to conclude an agreement with the EU that will allow for smooth mutual trade.
