Arturo Di Modica, the creator of the bronze Bull, known as the symbol of
Wall Street, passed away at the age of 80 in his hometown of Italy. Di Modica, 80, who has been fighting cancer in recent years, passed away in Vittoria Sicily, where he lived.
The 3.2-ton statue, located in Manhattan's financial district, was among Di Modica's most famous works. In fact, the statue, which was placed in front of the New York Stock Exchange without permission in 1989 as guerrilla art, was created to reflect the warrior spirit of the USA and New York.
After the police removed the statue, as a result of the great reaction of people to the incident, the parks directorate in the city had to put the statue back in its place.
Di Modica decided to make the statue after the market crash, known as 'black Monday' in October 1989 and placed it as a Christmas gift in front of the New York Stock Exchange in December 1989. Di Modica, who paid 360 thousand dollars from his own pocket to make the statue of the bull, said that he saw it as a debt to the Americans who accepted him into the country and put the statue on sale in 2004 on the condition that it would not be moved.
