Cryptocurrency fraud gang has been caught! The gang was arrested in Hong Kong.
More than 100 cryptocurrency scams around the world and 19 cryptocurrency scammers who stole approximately $1.4 million in funds from investors were caught and arrested by the Hong Kong police.
Announcing the arrest,
Hong Kong police said they seized nine computers, 128 smartphones, $179,600 worth of cash and a sports car in connection with the case.
Allegedly, cryptocurrency scammers defrauded people in Taiwan, the People's Republic of China, the UK and Hong Kong. An investor lost as much as $97,500, one of the largest individual losses in a single case in the country, the police said in a statement.
According to Hong Kong police, the group, which consists of 11 men and 8 women in the 18-31 age group, includes technicians, managers and influencers among those arrested. It is also alleged that the scammers rented buildings in the city to set up offices and collaborated with social media influencers who told investors to transfer their funds to a cryptocurrency e-wallet of their choice and to the scammers' bank accounts.
