Daimler Will Produce The EQB Electric Car In Hungary
German group Daimler is investing HUF 50 billion (141 million euros) in the expansion of its Hungarian company, said Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó at a press conference broadcast via Facebook on Monday.
Thanks to the investment, the Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing
Hungary plant in Kecskemét should start producing electric cars at the end of next year. The Hungarian government will provide an investment incentive of HUF 15 billion. This will secure a future for 4,400 jobs, Szijjártó emphasized. He also appreciated that Daimler chose Hungary for such an important technological investment.
In addition, a body shop will be built and technological preparations for the serial production of purely electric models will begin. According to Christian Wolff, head of the Kecskemét plant, the compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) EQB will be produced here.
Serial production could begin in the last quarter of 2021. The model should have its world premiere in the spring of 2021. According to Wolff,
Daimler chose the plant in Kecskemét for the excellent results of its employees.
