The International Monetary Fund (
IMF) management will meet today to give its final assessment on allegations that IMF Director Kristalina Georgieva falsified World Bank statistics in 2017 in favor of China.
While the decision on Georgieva is expected to be announced today, it is stated that the joint annual meeting of the IMF and the World Bank will start today.
A review of some of the World Bank's activities revealed that senior executives, including the current head of the IMF, had in recent years pressured employees to make changes in some reports in favor of China.
Allegations of Irregularity About China
According to the review report, it was stated that
Georgieva, who was the CEO of the World Bank in 2017-2019, and her advisor Simeon Djankov, pressured employees to change the data in China's 2018 Ease of Business report and increase China's scores.
China's ranking in the "2018 Business" report, released in October 2017, rose seven places to 78, compared to its ranking in the draft report, after changes to the data methodology.
