Unemployment figures for August were announced. Unemployment rate was recorded as 12.1 percent in August.
Turkish Statistical Institute (
TurkStat) announced the unemployment data for August. According to the data announced by TurkStat, the unemployment rate was 12.1 percent in August. In July, the unemployment rate in Turkey was recorded as 12 percent.
According to TurkStat data, the number of unemployed people aged 15 and over in Turkey increased by 11 thousand people in August 2021 compared to the previous month and reached 3 million 965 thousand people.
Unemployment rate among the young population in the 15-24 age group decreased by 0.1 percentage points compared to the previous month and became 22.7 percent, while the employment rate increased by 0.4 points to 32.6 percent.
The labor force participation rate in this age group, on the other hand, increased by 0.5 percentage points compared to the previous month and became 42.2 percent.
In the same period, the non-agricultural
unemployment rate was recorded as 14.2 percent.
Idle Workforce Becomes 22 Percent
It was also observed that there was a decrease in the rate of idle labor force, which is accepted as a comprehensive unemployment indicator.
The rate of idle labor force, which consists of time-related underemployment, potential labor force and unemployed, decreased by 1.7 percentage points compared to the previous month and became 22 percent in August 2021. While the combined rate of time-related underemployment and the unemployed was 15.3 percent, the combined rate of potential workforce and unemployed was 19.2 percent.
Layoff Restriction Ended in June
The restriction layoffs, short-time working allowance and cash wage support, which started in April 2020 due to the coronavirus epidemic, ended on 1 July.
According to TurkStat data, registered unemployed people increased by 244 thousand people in July and August, when there was no ban on dismissal.
