EasyJet records a significant increase in the number of summer holiday bookings
The British low-cost airline EasyJet stated that its holiday flights division records a year-on-year increase in bookings of 250 percent for this summer.
This development reinforces the aviation sector's hopes for a sharp recovery in demand after the easing of lockdown restrictions.
EasyJet CEO Johan Lundgren told the BBC that the increase in bookings provided confidence for the air transport market in the aftermath of the
coronavirus pandemic.
"We know people want to go on holiday as soon as they can," Lundgren said. He told the BBC that the vaccination program in the UK and Europe was "undoubtedly the key to unlocking again."
EasyJet is ready to strengthen its timetable as soon as customer confidence returns, the boss added.
Last year, airlines, including easyJet, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic, reported the disruption of thousands of jobs and halted traffic on some routes.
Last week, Norwegian Air Shuttle announced the loss of 1,000 jobs at London's Gatwick Airport and the end of its long-haul flights.
