Elon Musk's Starlink Satellite Launch in Iran
Tesla's CEO Elon Musk launched the satellite internet system Starlink in Iran after the US issued a general license allowing the expansion of internet services to Iranians.
In Iran, where protests continue intensely, Elon Musk took a new step after the US issued a general license allowing the expansion of the scope of internet services provided to Iranians. Responding to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's Twitter post on the subject, Musk wrote, "We are activating Starlink."
In a statement recorded by the Treasury Department, it was reported that the general license in question was issued with the aim of increasing support for internet freedom in Iran.
The statement, which pointed out that the government restricted internet access following the demonstrations that started in Iran after Mahsa Emini died shortly after she was detained for "not following the hijab rules", stated that the US took action to "support the Iranian people's access to free flow of information and factual information".
What is Starlink and how does it work?
Starlink is described as a satellite constellation project that will place thousands of small satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO) 550 kilometers above us.
SpaceX, founded by successful businessman Elon Musk, plans to build a network of 12 thousand satellites in Earth orbit with Starlink satellites. The project is expected to be completed in 2027.
