Bad News from Technology Giant Apple; Ban on Iphone Sales?
Technology giant Apple, which is among the most sued companies, announced that they may have to withdraw from the UK, if it is found guilty, as a result of a patent lawsuit filed against it.
Apple, one of the most sued popular technology company in the technology world, periodically comes up with fines and compensation news. Finally, Apple, which came to the agenda with a similar event, noted that if it loses a patent lawsuit filed against it, they may have to withdraw from a country where it operates most actively.
In 2020, PanOptis Patent Management sued Apple for infringing 7 LTE-related patents on some of its cellular-enabled products, such as the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. Losing the lawsuit, which was concluded in August of the same year, Apple was forced to pay $ 506.2 million to the plaintiff.
Apple appealed the decision. In July of last year, the case was reopened and the amount of compensation the company had to pay was reduced to $300 million.
Despite drastically reducing the compensation, the company once again requested a retrial because it wanted to get through the incident with zero damage. In fact, it has not even responded positively to the bargaining demands of the plaintiffs so far.
According to Reuters, the third time the company's request for a trial with the aim of reducing the damage to zero was not accepted by East Texas US District Judge Rodney Gilstrap. For this reason, Apple had to pay PanOptis Patent Management $300 million in damages for violating its LTE patents.
If Apple is found to be guilty in the lawsuit to be heard in July, it may have to stop selling products such as the iPhone in the country. Of course, losing the case in the USA does not mean that he will lose in the UK. Because the different laws of the countries are decisive in such cases.
