The subject of indexing the Russian currency to gold and various commodities having foreign exchange value was discussed, according to Russian Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitriy Peskov. Spokesperson Dmitriy Peskov made statements about the Russian economy at the press conference he attended in the capital Moscow. Answering a question about whether the issue of indexing the Russian ruble to gold or various commodities with foreign currency value is on the agenda, Spokesperson Peskov said, "This issue is currently being discussed." Peskov also noted that the President of the United States, Joe Biden, asked the Congress to authorize the sale of the assets of the Russian oligarchs on the sanction list to help the Ukrainian people. Emphasizing that what has been done is a very dangerous precedent, Peskov stated that a blatant distortion of any legal norm would mean a violation of all legal concepts in general. Noting that this situation will cause deep misunderstanding, Peskov said, "This is nothing but the confiscation of private property and the legitimation of it." Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev stated in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta yesterday that Russian experts are working on "a two-cycle monetary and financial system". Stating that according to the project, the indexation of the Russian ruble to gold and various commodities with foreign exchange value is being investigated, Patrushev also said, “As a result, the ruble exchange rate will match the real purchasing power.
