Republic Of Lithuania Stopped Natural Gas Purchases From Russia

Republic of Lithuania stopped natural gas purchases from Russia, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda made a statement on the subject.

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda shared on his social media account, "As of this month, there is no longer Russian gas in Lithuania. If we can do it, the rest of Europe can do it too.” After the invasion of Ukraine, Russia was subjected to sanctions by many countries. He made statements stating that Lithuania completely stopped buying natural gas from Russia as of April. Lithuanian Energy Minister Dainius Kreivys described the halting of gas imports from Russia as "a turning point in Lithuania's energy history". Stating that they are the first European country to abandon Russian gas, Kreivys stated that this is the result of consistent energy policies carried out for years and timely infrastructure decisions. It was stated that all of the country's gas needs are met through liquefied natural gas (LNG), and it was noted that the planning regarding the amount of natural gas to be imported in the coming months and the routes through which the gas will be brought to the country was made with the Klaipedos Nafta company, which operates the LNG terminal.
