Electric vehicle giant Tesla will focus on increasing the production of its current models to confirm CEO
Elon Musk's prediction that 2022 will be a milestone for the electric vehicle industry and Tesla.
After the company announced record revenue and earnings per
share, surpassing analysts' estimates,
Elon Musk referred to the decision to postpone new models and said, "If we had launched our new models both last year and this year, our total vehicle production would have decreased."
Musk noted that launching the Cybertruck, Semi, and Roadster models in 2022 "wouldn't make sense because they would still have parts constraints."
Focused on the production of two models in 2021
In order to feel the effects of the chip crisis that disrupted automobile production in 2021, the company focused on the production of its two best-selling models (Model 3 and Y) and achieved a very successful delivery rate of 97 percent.
Although supplying chips for a small number of models is advantageous in terms of production, delaying the launch of new models carries risks, such as falling behind in the market for Tesla. While Rivian Automotive Incorporation increases the production of the electric pickup R1T, the segment leader Ford Motor Company is preparing to launch the electric version of the F-150, the best-selling pickup model.
