Markets are concerned that former prime minister and NATO secretary-general
Stoltenberg's close ties to the current ruling party could affect
monetary policy independence.
Ida Wolden will act as Governor of the Bank of Norway until
Stoltenberg takes over the presidency.
Between 1990 and 1991, he worked as Secretary of State at the Ministry of Environment. He was elected as a member of parliament for the first time in 1993. He served as Minister of Commerce and Energy from 1993 to 1996 and as Minister of Finance from 1996 to 1997. While in opposition in Parliament, he served on standing committees on energy issues.
He served as the second minister between March 3, 2000 - October 19, 2001, and October 17, 2005 - October 16.
From 2002 to October 1, 2014, he served as the Chairman of the Norwegian Workers' Party. He was chairman of the
Stoltenberg Workers' Youth League from 1985 to 1989 and served on the Oslo branch of the Workers' Party from 1990 to 1992. Between 1990 and 1991, he worked as Secretary of State at the Ministry of Environment. Jens
Stoltenberg was appointed Prime Minister of Norway on March 3, 2000, although he was the party's deputy leader. He was elected Prime Minister on October 17th, 2005, and for the second time in 2009. He failed to win the 2013 elections.
Jens Stoltenberg, who was elected to replace Anders Fogh Rasmussen and started his duty as NATO Secretary-General on 1 October 2014.
