Erdogan and Johnson Discuss NATO. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a phone conversation with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. It was discovered that the leaders evaluated regional developments, including Turkey-United Kingdom relations, as well as Sweden and Finland's request for NATO membership, and the Ukraine-Russia war.
Making a statement after the meeting, Presidential Communications Directorate stated that Erdogan said that Sweden and Finland's relations with individuals and so-called organizations under the control of the terrorist organization PKK/YPG pose a problem.
Stating that they want to make sure that Finland and Sweden will uphold NATO values and that Turkey's legitimate concerns will be duly observed, President Erdoğan underlined that the rightful reaction of the Turkish public against the NATO membership request of the countries that support terrorism should not be ignored.
