Ethereum Founder Criticized The President Of El Salvador
Ethereum founder harshly criticized the President of El Salvador. Buterin doesn't think it's right that Bukele enforces Bitcoin acceptance.
Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of
Ethereum, criticized El Salvador's stance on mandating Bitcoin acceptance for businesses on Reddit.
Posting on Reddit, under the headline “Unpopular opinion: The crypto community should not praise El Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele,”
Buterin said, “Requiring businesses to accept a particular cryptocurrency goes against the ideals of freedom that should be so important to the cryptocurrency space. Additionally, the tactic of forcing millions of Salvadorans to use BTC simultaneously, with almost no prior training, is irresponsible. Lots of innocent people can be hacked or scammed. Anyone who uncritically praises him should be ashamed.”
Article 7 of El Salvador's Bitcoin Law, which went into effect on September 7, 2021, obliges Bitcoin to be accepted as a form of payment.
On the other hand, El Salvador President Bukele said in a statement on his Twitter account that the adoption of Bitcoin will be completely voluntary and the government will not force it. Bukele said, “If someone wants to continue carrying cash, not be involved in Bitcoin, they can continue to do so.”
However, later, Bukele's legal adviser, Javier Argueta, openly stated that those who do not accept Bitcoin will be penalized.
