EU and Canada Will Launch Raw Material Cooperation
The EU and Canada will launch a raw material cooperation. The two sides aim to reduce reliance on China.
Canada and the
European Union (EU) announced that they have decided to cooperate to secure their supply chains and reduce their dependence on raw materials from China.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who met with EU leaders in Brussels today, made a statement to the press. Said, "We discussed with EU countries what we can do to build a clean economy in the coming years. First of all, in order to create 'green' jobs for the middle class, supply chain security must be ensured in important raw materials required for products such as electric vehicle batteries."
Ursula von der Leyen, President of the EU Commission, drew attention to the issue of China and said:
"We Europeans want to move away from manufacturers like China and diversify our imports. Because we want more sustainable raw materials, less damaging to the environment, and transparency."
In their joint statement, the EU and Canada stated that the sustainability and security of trade and investments, the integrity of the raw material value chain will be ensured, and a partnership in science, technology and innovation will be made, taking into account environmental and social criteria.
