EU And USA Agreed On Reduction In Customs Duties In Mutual Trade
EU Commission Trade Officer Phil Hogan and US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer issued a joint statement on the reduction in customs duties. It was noted in the declaration that the EU and the USA agreed on a package that provides a reduction in customs duties in mutual trade. The declaration pointed out that this is the first tariff reduction agreement between the EU and the USA in more than 20 years, that the EU will retrospectively remove customs duties on live and frozen lobsters imported from the USA for 5 years from 1 August. It is stated that it will reduce customs duties by 50 percent on products such as ready meals, crystal glassware and lighters imported from the EU. Trade relations between the EU and the USA have entered a tense period, especially with the inauguration of US President Donald Trump. There are disagreements between the parties on additional customs duties on steel and aluminum and support provided to the aviation sector.
