European Commission Plans To Formally File Charges Against Amazon For Antitrust Violations
The European Commission plans to formally file charges against US retail giant Amazon on Tuesday for antitrust violations.
The reason is its dual role on the one hand as a marketplace for traders and at the same time a retailer selling the same products. This was stated by a source familiar with the matter, who did not want to be named.
Margrethe Vestager, Vice-President of the Commission in charge of Competition, convened a press conference at 12:30 CET without mentioning the subject.
However, Hospodárske noviny Financial Times reported that Vestager will announce a formal antitrust accusation against
Amazon on Tuesday for using data about traders on its platform.
The European Commission declined to comment on the
Financial Times report.
Agencies said last month that the European Antitrust Authority could narrow the scope of Amazon's annual investigation to speed up the case.
