The Unemployment Rate In The United Kingdom Rose To Its Highest Level Since 2016
The unemployment rate in the United Kingdom, as a result of a
coronavirus pandemic, rose to its highest level since 2016 during the three-month period from July to September.
Unemployment rose by 0.3 percentage point to 4.8 percent compared to June-August. Compared to July to September last year, it increased by a whole percentage point.
The number of people employed in
Britain has fallen by 782,000 since the start of the pandemic. The British statistical office informed about it on Tuesday.
Today's figures "point to the extent of the difficulties we are facing," said British Finance Minister Rishi Sunak in a statement.
"I want to assure all those who fear the coming winter months that we will continue to support those who are affected," Sunak added.
