Evaluation of Plastic Raw Materials by Yavuz Eroğlu, President of PAGEV
PAGEV President Yavuz Eroğlu, in his statements about plastic raw material prices, said, "If there is no change on the foreign exchange side, we can expect price decreases in products containing plastic."
Yavuz Eroğlu, President of the Turkish Plastic Industrialists Research Development and Education Foundation (PAGEV), spoke about input costs in inflationary conditions.
In his assessment, PAGEV President Yavuz Eroğlu stated that the plastics industry affects the input costs of products produced in many sectors such as automotive, white goods, textile, food, medical and agriculture.
Emphasizing that Turkey has a very large plastics industry, Yavuz Eroğlu added that Turkey is the second largest country after Germany in the European Union (EU) in plastics production and the 6th largest country in the world.
Eroğlu continued his statements with the following statements:
"In a country that produces and exports so much plastic, raw material prices have a great impact on inflation and as an input to consumers. Freight prices have fallen rapidly since the beginning of the year, so affordable goods from different countries around the world started to move. We saw the effects of this immediately. We see the discount in logistics. If there is no change on the foreign exchange side, we can expect price decreases in products containing plastic."
Referring to the effect of semi-finished products such as bags and stretch film, which are smuggled from Iran and imported as ready-made bobbins, on Turkish producers, Eroğlu said, "The recent smuggling problems at customs have had negative effects on the sector. Instead of producing stretch film and bags, companies have stopped their production due to these products smuggled from abroad."
