Facebook May Withdraw From Europe After Ban
Facebook can be withdrawn from Europe after the ban. Facebook warned that if the data commission in Ireland implements the ban on data transfer with the US, Facebook will withdraw from Europe.
Famous social media platform Facebook announced that if Ireland implements the data ban, it may withdraw from Europe. The European Court of Justice claimed in July that there were inadequacies in data protection against US intelligence services.
According to information obtained from court documents in Dublin, the capital of Ireland, Facebook's legal counsel states that if the ban is implemented, the company will have to stop its operations in Europe.
Yvonne Cunnane, Facebook data protection manager, said, "In the event that Facebook's transfer of user data to the US is completely stopped, Facebook and Instagram may continue to serve in the European Union, although it is not clear how it will happen."
Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, stated that the statements in the court documents do not constitute a threat and that the statement is only a reflection of the facts.
Facebook spokesperson said, "Facebook does not use withdrawal as a threat to Europe."
A spokesperson of
Facebook also said, “The legal documents submitted by the Irish supreme court ignore a simple fact. Facebook and many other businesses, organizations and service providers are able to provide services through data transfer between Europe and the USA. The absence of safe and legal international data transfer harms the economy and data-centered growing companies on the way to recovery after Covid-19.”
