Facebook wants to compete with Clubhouse
The recent success of the talk app Clubhouse shocked Facebook. The world's largest online network presented a similarly functioning competing service called Live Audio Rooms that night. Facebook's advantage could lie in the existing base of more than 2.5 billion users, while Clubhouse must win them over.
At Clubhouse, numerous users can take part in panel discussions. Only some of them can speak at the same time. The app quickly gained popularity in recent months after appearances by celebrities, among other things. So far, it is only available for the iPhone; a version for smartphones with the Google Android system is in progress. Twitter is already testing a clubhouse copy. Almost at the same time as Facebook, the
Reddit platform announced a similar service.
However, Facebook is going on the audio offensive on a broader front. In cooperation with the music streaming market leader Spotify, you will be able to listen to podcasts directly in the Facebook app. Facebook wants to suggest individual podcasts based on its knowledge of the interests of the users. With "Soundbites" Facebook wants to introduce short audio contributions on its platform.
Facebook is known for copying functions of successful rivals in its services - if it did not succeed in buying them, such as the chat service
WhatsApp 2014. The copies are not always successful: Facebook tried several times to imitate the photos that disappeared by themselves on Snapchat, however, the apps have been discontinued.
On the other hand, Facebook hit the bull's eye with the copy of Snapchat's Stories feature, where users can share photos and videos with their friends for a day.
