Fast Steps to Green Industry
Ankara Chamber of Industry (ASO) President Nurettin Özdebir stated that the work on Managing the Effects of the European Union Green Agreement on ASO Member Enterprises continues at full speed and said, "Our member companies will be able to prepare for the regulations they will encounter in the supply and export processes, especially in the use of energy and resources, and maintain their competitiveness."
At the Joint Meeting of Professional Committees held in Afyonkarahisar, ASO President Özdebir made statements stating that Russia's occupation of Ukraine caused imbalances in the general economic structure and significantly increased uncertainties.
Özdebir said, "All these processes make it necessary to update the strategies and policies implemented by our country towards the industry. While making these updates, the concepts of 'green industry' and 'circular economy' will become more important than ever in the coming period. In the preparation of the communiqué to increase the BRSA green asset ratio, it is expected that a regulation will be made in such a way that companies close to sustainability will have lower access to credit and lower costs. In this context, many new indicators have been developed that focus on environmental and social issues in measuring economic growth.
Expressing that environmental issues were integrated into EU trade policies with the European Union Green Deal, Özdebir continued:
"With the border carbon regulation coming into effect in 2023, companies exporting to the EU will be required to report the carbon footprint of their products. From 2026, the payment will be made according to the carbon value included. Turkey's economy will be greatly affected by this regulation. For this reason, we started the project of Managing the Effects of the EU Green Deal on ASO Member Enterprises. With the project, the current situation of our members and the sectors in which they operate will be evaluated, and risk analysis studies will be carried out by visiting our companies within 35 professional committees.
In addition to the training programs we will organize for our businesses on carbon and water footprint calculations, teams will be formed to provide technical support to our member companies on carbon and water footprint calculations. Thus, our member companies will be able to prepare for the regulations they will encounter in the supply and export processes, especially in the use of energy and resources, and will be able to maintain their competitiveness."
Ankara Chamber of Industry (ASO) President Nurettin Özdebir underlined the need to focus on exporting high-value-added products instead of exporting high-priced products.
