FEMALE UNEMPLOYMENT INCREASES

Female unemployment increases during pandemic. With the Covid-19 epidemic, millions of people lost their jobs, while female employees were the most negatively affected. According to the latest analysis published by international consultancy firm McKinsey, female employees worldwide are 1.8 times more vulnerable than men to lose their jobs.
Women make up 39 percent of global employment, but most of the layoffs are women. In the US alone, 54 percent of those who lost their jobs during the pandemic were women. In India, women accounted for 20 percent of the workforce, while 23 percent of women lost their jobs.
According to McKinsey's calculations, the jobs of female employees are 19 percent more risky than the male employees in the sectors affected by the corona virus epidemic. Globally, 4.5 percent of total female employment is at risk due to a pandemic. This rate rises to 3.8 percent for male employees.
54% of the accommodation and food and beverage sector, which the epidemic affected the most, are women. In the retail and wholesale sector, female employment rate is 43 percent. For other sectors such as arts, entertainment and public administration, female employment reaches 46 percent. In the analysis, where it was stated that the manufacturing sector, where men work hard, was also affected by the crisis, it was stated that women-oriented sectors such as education and health were relatively less affected.

WORKING FOR FREE

Along with the informal economy, women working in family affairs without a salary also have a large share. The proportion of women who look after the child or the elderly family, who have to do things like food, cleaning or do family farming, reaches 75 percent worldwide.

EQUALITY ENLARGES ECONOMY

Gender inequality also prevents economic growth in business life. McKinsey investigated the effects of gender inequality on the global economy. Accordingly, if gender equality is not achieved in business life, the loss of the global economy will be $ 1 trillion in 2030. However, if equality is achieved, the profit reaches $ 13 trillion. Even just seeing the effects of the pandemic and taking action to ensure gender equality will increase the global economy by 8 trillion dollars more in the next 10 years.
