Ford Will Expand The Production Of Electric Cars And Hire More Employees
US carmaker Ford Motor announced on Tuesday that it plans to hire another 350 employees in the United States to expand the production capacity of its F-150 electric pickup truck in Michigan and electric supplies in Missouri.
Ford also said it would add another model to the Mexican factory that makes the Mustang Mach-E electric sports utility vehicle.
However, the carmaker did not disclose how many people will be hired to produce the second type of vehicle in
Mexico, which should "share a similar electrified platform" as Mach-E.
Ford plans to invest $ 150 million (€ 126.23 million) to increase production of engines and transmissions for electric vehicles at a transmission plant in the suburbs of Detroit.
The latest investment in an electric vehicle is part of a $ 11.5 billion investment plan for 2022. Ford has promised United Auto Workers that it will invest $ 6 billion in US electric car factories.
Ford will increase the production capacity of the electric version of its F-150 pickup by 50% from its original plans and add another 200 permanent jobs to the complex near its headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan.
The F-150 electric model, scheduled for sale in 2022, will compete with electric pick-ups, which Tesla, General Motors, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and several start-ups plan to produce.
Kumar Galhotra, president of
Ford Americas and International Markets, said the decision to increase production of the electric version of the F-150 was made after the vehicle's debut in June based on customer reactions.
