Car owners rushed to gas stations last week after
BP announced that it would temporarily close some petrol stations due to a lack of transport drivers in the country. While long queues formed in front of the stations, many stations ran out of fuel.
In addition to the supply problems caused by the coronavirus pandemic, it is not possible to reach some products in supermarket chains in the country where there is a shortage of drivers after the rapid rise in energy prices.
Supermarket chain Tesco has warned there is a risk of panic buying ahead of Christmas.
Supply problems have affected many industries. Some products cannot be found in restaurant chains such as McDonald's, KFC and Nando's.
Tesco told the British government it was short of 800 drivers. Despite the £1000 cash bonus and salary increases given in recruitment, sufficient number of drivers couldn’t be reached.
It is stated that there is a shortage of 100,000 drivers in the country. It is known that while 20,000 drivers returned to their country after Brexit, 50 thousand British drivers left their jobs in the last 18 months. The government is preparing to relax immigration rules for truck drivers.
