Germany and Russia have already re-established air links
The air connection between Germany and Russia was resumed on Wednesday evening. This happened after the two countries stopped blocking each other flights due to the situation related to the suspension of European Airlines flights over Belarus, the AFP agency reported.
Airlines from both countries have confirmed the resumption of connections. "Everything is fine, we got all the permits," said the director of the Russian airline Aeroflot.
A spokeswoman for the German company Lufthansa also confirmed that "flights to Moscow and St. Petersburg will be handled according to plan".
Flights between countries were blocked after Russia did not issue timely permits on Wednesday for Lufthansa flights to fly from Germany to Russia.
"On the basis of the principle of reciprocity, the Federal
Aviation Administration did not subsequently issue further permits for flights operated by Russian Airlines until the permits were issued by the Russian side," said the German Ministry of Transport.
Last week, the Russian side did not issue a permit for flights to Russia to several European airlines, which, at the urging of the European Union, changed flight routes to avoid Belarusian airspace. According to Moscow, these permits were not issued for "technical reasons".
At last week's summit, the European Union decided to ban the flights of Belarusian airlines to the EU and called on airlines based in the Union not to fly through Belarusian airspace.
The reason is the detention of opposition journalist and activist Raman Pratasevich at Minsk Airport, where they were forcibly diverted
Ryanair's flight from Athens to Vilnius.
