Germany's Thermos Solution to Russia's Natural Gas Moves

In the aftermath of the severe sanctions imposed on Germany following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, almost all countries to which Germany exports natural gas have experienced difficulties. Germany, which wants to get rid of its dependence on Russia for energy, has proposed a new solution. A giant heat thermos was built in Berlin.

Due to the harsh winters Germany experienced, it had entered into solutions for energy with the increase in natural gas prices and restriction decisions made by Russia. The manufacturer giant noted that they built a heat storage tank, called a giant thermos, where they planned to distribute heat. In the project put forward by Vattenfall, the tower-shaped heat storage tank, which is about 45 meters high, will be able to store 50 million liters of water. It will be able to keep the water hot for up to 13 hours and will be able to meet most of the hot water needs of the German capital Berlin in summer and 10 percent in winter. The giant thermos will function using backup electricity from wind and solar panels in Germany. It was stated that the facility, which will start its activities next year, was completed for 52 million dollars. "It's a giant thermos that helps us store heat when we don't need it and then we can release it when we need to use it," said Tanja Wielgoss, head of Vattenfall's heat unit.
