Hundreds of Civil Servants Went on Strike in Iraq!
Hundreds of civil servants went on strike in
Iraq. Iraqi officials reacted to the two months of non-payment of their salaries.
Hundreds of civil servants working in the health, oil service and education sectors in Iraq's Diyala, Babylon, El-Musenna, Zikar and Karbala cities started a general strike. The officers on strike announced that they would continue the strike until their salaries are paid.
Speaking to the AA correspondent, Kerim et-Temimi, an officer in the Zikar oil refinery, stated that the salaries of September and October were not paid and this caused great discontent among the civil servants. Stating that their salaries were paid until 2 months ago despite the decrease in oil prices and the economic problems experienced by the country, Temimi said that they wanted to learn the reason for this delay.
Ranking second in crude oil production after Saudi Arabia within the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (
OPEC), Iraq is struggling with the economic crisis due to the drop in oil prices in the global market.
Also, in October, the Iraqi government submitted a 41 trillion dinar (approximately $ 34 billion) domestic borrowing bill to the parliament to pay civil servant salaries.
