India Launches Digital Rupee Trials
India launches digital rupee trials. The testing program of the digital rupee will begin by December.
Shaktikanta Das, Governor of the
Central Bank of India, announced that they will start the first digital rupee testing program by the end of the year.
In an interview with CNBC, Chairman Das stated that they are working on all aspects, especially the security of digital money and its impact on India's financial sector.
Emphasizing that the works are carried out meticulously because it is a completely new product, Das said, "We can start the first trials at the end of the year."
The growing popularity of Bitcoin and the decline in cash usage have led many Central Banks, from China to the European Central Bank, to step up their digital currency work since last year.
Some countries have even surpassed this and accepted
Bitcoin as legal money. In El Salvador, which is expected to accept Bitcoin as legal money as of September 7, even Bitcoin ATMs are ready.
