Indices Started the Day With a Decline In The USA
Indices in the USA are started the day with a decline. Despite the positive coronavirus vaccine at this point, the increase in the number of cases has caused concern in the market.
In addition to the concern created by the increase in the number of coronavirus (Covid-19) cases, the funding tension between the US Treasury Department and the
FED also caused the indexes to open with a decline.
Day start of the Dow Jones index fell by 0.12 percent and traded at 29446.43 points. The S&P 500 index fell 0.10 percent to 3,578.30 points, and the Nasdaq index fell 0.06 percent to 11,897.13 points.
The number of patients infected with coronavirus has reached 12 million in the USA, and with the rapid increase in the number of cases, some states have reintroduced the measures. Schools were closed in New York, and in California, the most populous state of the USA, it was decided to impose a night curfew for 1 month to slow the pace of the epidemic.
On the other hand, tension between the U.S. Treasury department and the FED over the return of unused Covid-19 funds played a role in the negative advance of the markets.
US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin requested the return of the unused $ 455 billion of funds from the FED, within the framework of loan programs implemented against the economic disadvantages of the coronavirus epidemic. Mnuchin requested a 90-day extension for 4 of the FED's urgent loan programs, and requested 5 programs to be completed on 31 December as previously determined.
In addition, good news came from the coronavirus vaccine. The US pharmaceutical company Pfizer has requested that the vaccine be allowed for emergency use in the USA.
Pfizer and BioNTech, which applied to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for emergency use, also started applying to institutions in Europe.
