Is The Sale Of Music Based NFTs Legal?
Is the sale of music based NFTs legal? The recent increase in NFT wave brings some problems with it.
In the past days, copyright came to the fore after the Nike brand sued a company for the unauthorized sale of
NFTs. Something similar happened in the music industry.
While even platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music that pay huge amounts for copyrights could not satisfy artists or representative organizations, the introduction of the NFT concept made things even more difficult.
HitPiece platform, which started to sell important moments of musical pieces as NFT in the past weeks, was closed after a short time after the reactions of many artists on social media. Although the platform states that it does not use any music, it is stated that the images of the artists and works are used without permission.
The
Music Industry Association of the USA sent a communiqué asking for the list of NFTs sold and how much revenue was generated.
The Association stated that this platform defrauded music lovers and that it should definitely be punished. The platform deceived consumers by covering up unauthorized use. In this respect, it is aimed that no one will repeat a similar scam.
