Italian Prime Minister Conte May Sue Pfizer

Italian Prime Minister Conte may sue Pfizer. Conte is on the brink of legal action with pharmaceutical companies slowing delivery.

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte announced that they would initiate a legal process within the framework of their rights in the contract to drug manufacturers who stated that they would reduce the supply of coronavirus vaccine. Italy reacted, after the US pharmaceutical company Pfizer announced on January 15 that it will temporarily reduce the supply of vaccines to Europe, and Oxford-AstraZeneca, which has not yet received approval from the European Medicines Agency, stated that there will be disruptions in the supply of the vaccine.   Conte, who shared a post on the subject on his Facebook account, said, "The latest news from Covid-19 vaccine manufacturers is worrying." Stating that Pfizer-Biontech first reduced the delivery in vaccine supply, Prime Minister Conte claimed that these delays in vaccine delivery "punished" countries such as Italy, which progressed rapidly in this regard. Pointing out that they could not continue vaccination in many regions of Italy due to the slowdown of vaccine delivery, Conte stated that the few doses that had already arrived were reserved for those who received the first dose.   On the news of a delay in delivery from AstraZeneca, Conte said: "What is really worrying is the news from AstraZeneca waiting for distribution within the EU. If a 60 percent reduction of the doses planned to be distributed in the first three months is confirmed, Italy will be given 3.4 million instead of 8 million. This is unacceptable." Stating that Health Minister Roberto Speranza and Prime Ministry Emergency Procurement Commissioner Domenico Arcuri met with AstraZeneca officials in order to confirm the aforementioned cut, Conte stated that the national vaccination programs are prepared in accordance with the agreements signed with the European Commission.   Conte said the following on the subject: "While the pandemic has been reflecting directly on the lives and health of citizens, our already strained economic and social fabric in Italy and other European countries for a year, all these slowdowns in vaccine deliveries constitute serious contractual breaches. As we have already done to Pfizer-Biontech, we will use all of our legal tools and initiatives to protect our nation in every way in accordance with our contractual rights."   Preparations to file a lawsuit against Pfizer Continues It was reported that Italy was considering initiating a legal process against Pfizer, who announced that it would temporarily reduce the supply of coronavirus vaccine and had negotiations with experienced legal advisors. It was announced that the amount of vaccine Pfizer provided to Italy this week was 29 percent less than promised, and it will be 20 percent less next week. In the news in the Italian press, the Prime Ministry Emergency Procurement Commissioner, Arcuri, in his talks with regional officials, stated that the government's legal counsel said that he would finish his work to sue Pfizer on Monday.
