Joe Biden made separate phone calls with the leaders of Australia, Japan and South Korea. It was stated that in these meetings, the most emphasis was on security and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
Biden's phone conversations with leaders focused on strengthening alliance relations, cooperation against the coronavirus epidemic, and global economic recovery. In addition to these issues, global cooperation in combating climate change was also among the topics.
Expressing his gratitude to the leaders who sought to congratulate him, Joe Biden emphasized that the USA attaches great importance to every leader in security and defense in the region.
In a telephone conversation with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, Biden declared his commitment to the defense of Japan "within the framework of the fifth article". Biden also underlined that the USA-Japan alliance plays a key role in the security of the Indo-Pacific region.
In his meeting with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Biden emphasized cooperation for strengthening democracy, economic recovery and regional security in the Indo-Pacific region.
In his meeting with South Korean President Moon Jae, Joe Biden said, "The alliance relationship between the US and South Korea is the cornerstone of security and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region." Biden expressed that he looks forward to working with Jae on many issues, from climate change to North Korea.
