Johnson and Von Der Leyen Will Talk about Brexit
Johnson and von der Leyen will talk about Brexit. The two parties will meet at dinner to solve the problems.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will discuss Brexit-related issues in Brussels. With 3 weeks left to resolve the problems in the trade agreement negotiations between the European Union (EU) and the UK, Johnson and von der Leyen will handle the situation.
According to information given to Reuters by an EU official and two diplomats, Michel Barnier, the EU's Chief Negotiator, said at a meeting with the bloc's ministers that it seems more possible for both sides to continue on their way without making an agreement at the end of the year.
Irish Prime Minister Michael Martin said that if there is no improvement, EU leaders meeting in Brussels on Thursday and Friday will have to discuss emergency plans.
Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned that the two sides may have to agree to "not make an agreement". Britain, which will officially leave the EU in January, was in a transition period where it remained in the EU single market and customs union since then. This period will end exactly on December 31st.
If the deal, which will cover approximately $ 1 trillion in trade, cannot be made until the end of the term, businesses will suffer from customs and quota practices.
