A lawsuit was filed against the
CBRT's cryptocurrency regulation. More than one lawsuit has been filed against the Regulation on the Non-Use of Crypto Assets in Payments, published on April 16, 2021 and has come into effect as of today.
In an e-mail shared with Uzmancoin on the subject, another lawsuit was filed by a law firm in Afyon. Bureau lawyers Mücahit Demiray, İbrahim Keçelioğlu and Şahin Küçüktepe made the following statements:
“We are against the Regulation on the Non-Use of Crypto Assets in Payments created by the
Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey published in the Official Gazette dated 16.04.2021, which is a regulation that will limit the diversity in the use of economic instruments in the following years, which concerns the whole society. An annulment case was filed with the Presidency of the Council of State as a court of first instance due to a breach of interest. The main number of the case will be shared in the future, and we would like to express that our colleagues and concerned parties who wants to offer their legal and technical support may be included in the file as interveners.”
Some names from the cryptocurrency industry, as well as politicians, reacted to the decision of the CBRT. CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu described the regulation as "midnight bullying" and said, “Normally, before such decisions are made, all stakeholders are spoken to. To whom did they consult the crypto decision?”
