Lego presented a new set of LGBTQ + figures with a rainbow theme
The Danish family company Lego, which is famous for the production of an original kit, mainly from plastic cubes, presented a new set of LGBTQ + figures with a rainbow theme. In doing so, Lego seeks to target sexual minority customers who are enthusiastic about the figures. The Guardian reported.
They are all amazing. This is the official name of this LGBTQ + kit, which Lego will launch in the coming days. Apart from one of the figures, namely purple, no other gender is assigned.
White, pink and pale blue are supposed to represent the transgender community, and therefore people whose gender identity is not in line with the gender that was assigned to them at birth. Black and brown represent different skin colors. The purple figurine is then supposed to resemble a male person with its stylized wig, who depicts a woman with his clothes and behavior, thanks to a specific hairstyle.
The designer of this set and at the same time one of the vice-presidents of the Danish kit manufacturer, Matthew Ashton, did not originally intend that this set of figures would go on sale. However, his idea attracted his colleagues, so the company decided to really implement it.
"As a child, everyone around me told me what to play with, how to talk or what to wear. I tried to be someone I really wasn't. It was exhausting, "thinks Matthew Ashton, who is behind the proposal.
"I have been at Lego for six years. I've never been afraid to be myself here, so I really enjoy working for a company like Lego, which tries to be open about LGBTQ. Everyone should not be afraid to say that they are amazing, "adds Ashton.
The presented Lego set also attracted the attention of the public. "This move by Lego means a lot to the LGBTQIA + community. I hope it helps others think differently about us. Until now, we have often been overlooked by large corporations, ”says Flynn DeMarco, a member of the
LGBTQIA + community.
