Meeting of Erdogan and Biden ended positively. The two leaders came together as part of the G20 Leaders' Summit.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with US President
Joe Biden as part of the G20 Leaders' Summit. The two leaders had a meeting that lasted more than an hour. In the statement made by the Presidency, it was noted that the meeting took place in a positive atmosphere.
During the meeting, it was stated that it was agreed to establish a joint mechanism to strengthen and develop relations between the two countries.
During the meeting with President Erdoğan and US President Biden, the steps to be taken in line with the common perspective to increase the bilateral trade volume were evaluated.
In the meeting, which emphasized the NATO alliance and strategic partnership, attention was also drawn to the satisfaction felt for the mutual steps taken on climate change.
There was also a statement from the White House regarding the meeting. In the statement, it was said that
Biden underlined his desire to maintain constructive relations, expand areas of cooperation and manage differences effectively.
It was stated that Biden offered his appreciation for Turkey's nearly 20-year contribution to the NATO mission in Afghanistan. The statement included the following:
“The leaders discussed the political processes in Syria, the delivery of humanitarian aid Afghanistan needs, the Libyan elections, the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean, and diplomatic initiatives in the North Caucasus. President Biden reaffirmed the defense partnership and the importance of Turkey as a NATO ally. However, he also conveyed the concerns of the United States regarding Turkey's possession of the S-400 defense system.”
