Minecraft Game Bans NFTs!

The Microsoft-owned game studio shared an announcement today regarding changes to Minecraft's usage guidelines. Minecraft announced that it will soon ban Blockchain technology on game servers managed independently by fans and creators. It will also ban the use of Minecraft images to create NFT projects. To ensure that Minecraft players have a secure and inclusive experience, Blockchain technologies are not allowed to be integrated into server applications.

Mojang currently allows Minecraft's server operators to charge money to access their private online experience. However, the studio sees NFTs as a system that works against the spirit of Minecraft. According to the studio, this is because NFT models can limit players' ability to access features on certain servers.

“The speculative pricing and investment mentality around NFTs takes the focus away from gaming. It also encourages profiteering, which we feel is inconsistent with the long-term enjoyment and success of our players.”

Mojang has stated that some independent Minecraft servers allow the use of NFTs representing in-game items. It even noted that it provides NFT rewards for players. In addition, there are projects that turn Minecraft assets into NFT collectibles, such as Polygon-based NFT Worlds, which sells virtual land that can be used on a private Minecraft server. According to CryptoSlam data, NFT Worlds has generated $163 million worth of NFT transaction volume to date. ArkDev of NFT Worlds revealed today that the team is trying to determine how to proceed in the wake of the upcoming Minecraft rule change. No timeline has been published for the upcoming NFT-related rule change. In April, some Minecraft developers started an independent petition asking game developers to pledge not to use NFTs. However, the petition did not gain traction. Only 72 signatories supported it in the first week, and only 430 in total as of July 11. Interestingly, Microsoft has released official NFTs tied to Minecraft in recent months. In February 2021, as the NFT industry was taking off, it released free NFTs as part of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Around the same time, it partnered with blockchain firm Enjin for these NFTs.   Source: nfxhaber.com
