Mineral Water Conflict Between UK and EU
There is a mineral water conflict between the UK and the EU. The UK will limit mineral water to be imported from the EU.
Britain announced that it will impose a restriction on mineral water to be imported from the EU in retaliation, following the European Union's (EU) import barrier on shellfish.
The country plans to restrict several food products as well as mineral water. In the news in the Telegraph, a senior government official stated that restrictions could be applied to the exports of mineral water and potato seeds.
European Commission Vice President Maros Sefcovic did not accept the request to extend the transition period regarding the non-implementation of border controls in trade in a letter he sent to the British Cabinet Office Minister Michael Gove. The letter included statements that Britain should fully comply with the Brexit agreement.
In a speech earlier this month, Gove stated that the agreement on Northern Ireland is not working and that post-Brexit relations with the EU should be reconsidered.
The Northern Ireland Protocol of the Brexit agreement allows the passage of goods between
EU member Ireland and Northern Ireland, which is part of the UK, without being subject to customs controls.
