More than 200 employees of the Google in the USA have formed unions
More than 200 employees of the Google Internet search engine in the USA have formed unions. Elected union leaders told the New York Times on Monday.
Google is a subsidiary of Alphabet. The goal of the
Alphabet Workers Union is to ensure that employees work for a fair wage without fear of abuse, retaliation or discrimination, unions say.
The U.S. Labor Market Authority has accused Google of illegally interrogating several employees, who have subsequently been terminated after protests against the company's policies and attempts to form unions. Google said in that regard that it was certain that it had acted legally.
"We are building on years of organizing Google's efforts to create a formal structure for workers," union leaders said, adding that 226 employees have joined the union, which will be part of Communications Workers of America.
Kara Silverstein, director of human resources at Google, pointed out that employees had and are guaranteed protection of their rights. She added that
Google will continue to work directly with all employees.
