Nissan's Electric Model Couldn't Avoid the Chip Crisis
Nissan's electric model Couldn’t avoid the chip crisis. The chip crisis of the automotive industry also affected Nissan.
Nissan Motor delayed the sale of its electric car model Ariya due to the
chip supply crisis. Nissan's electric model, which was announced to go on sale in the middle of this year, will apparently stay until 2022.
The Ariya SUV first appeared in June 2020, with Nissan reporting that the electric model could go on sale in mid-2021. However, Nissan announced on Friday that the limited-edition model will go on sale in Japan this winter.
Nissan Vice President Asako Hoshino said: "We made our announcement mid-year a year ago, but then the Covid-19 outbreak took longer than expected and the chip crisis came about."
While the global chip crisis put a big set in the new model offering of automotive manufacturers, the gradual introduction of Ariya was an important move for Nissan.
But like many other automotive giants, Nissan was hit hard by the chip crisis. As a result, Nissan announced that the chip crisis will affect production of around 500,000 vehicles this year alone.
On the other hand, Hoshino noted that they expect the Ariya model to sell tens of thousands in the year it is released.
