Number of Electric Vehicles Will Be 1.1 Billion in 2050
According to information obtained from the "Global Renewable Energy Outlook: Energy Transformation 2050" report prepared by the International Renewable Energy Agency (
IRENA), there are 8 million electric vehicles worldwide as of the end of 2019.
In the report prepared, the oil prices, which have decreased due to the coronavirus outbreak, will significantly affect the energy and transportation sector and cause disruptions in the production and supply chain.
After the outbreak, falling
oil prices were expected to slow down the ability of
electric vehicles to adapt to the system. In the most optimistic scenario, the number of electric vehicles in the transportation sector is estimated to reach 1 billion 100 million by 2050.
The report, which pointed out that effective and sustainable energy policies have become widespread worldwide, stated that until 2050, fossil resources will be gradually abandoned for the formation of low carbon based economies.
Green Hydrogen Will Be "Game Changer"
Renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, electric vehicles and hydrogen will play an important role in reducing energy-borne carbon emissions by 2050.
In addition to these, despite the slowing production due to the coronavirus epidemic, it is estimated that costs will decrease in battery and electric vehicle production and green hydrogen vehicles will emerge as "game changers" in the transportation sector.
In the context of combating climate change, it is also among the information in the report that besides clean energy sources, carbon emissions from energy can be reduced by 70 percent by using clean energy in transportation.
