The government of Singapore has ordered Facebook (NASDAQ: FB) and Twitter to issue a statement that the new Covid-19 variant, which is said to have appeared in the country, is not real.
In the country, rumors were circulating that a new Covid-19 variant, previously unknown, had emerged and there was a risk of spreading from the city-state to India.
In response to these rumors, Delhi Prime Minister Arvind Kejriwal stated that a new type of virus, especially deadly for children, has emerged in Singapore and flights should be banned.
Both the Singapore and Indian governments criticized the opposition politician Kejriwal, saying his comments were untrue and "irresponsible".
Following the events, the Singapore government ordered the issue of a correction notice under the country's Fake News Act or the Online Fraud and Manipulation Act.

While Twitter has not yet shown any action in line with the government's order, Singapore Press Holdings, which received the same order, said that it published the statement on the SPH Magazines, HardWareZone forum.
